Gretchen Espina is Pinoy Idol

GMA Network has named Gretchen Espina as their very first Pinoy Idol. Gretchen has never been in the "The Bottom Group" during the competition though she was criticized that her win was probably caused by her family being involved in politics. It was Jayann Bautista who rose from the audience during the announcement of Pinoy Idol winner.

In an interview right after the Finale, she stated that a bulk of her supporters are based in Eastern Visayas region, adding that she would not have lasted in the competition if the viewers were not impressed with her performance.

Christian, Karylle and their West Side Story

West Side Story is a major musical offering of STAGES production this 2008.

Balladeer Christian Bautista takes the lead role of Tony and Karylle, alternating as Maria. Also in the cast is London West End’s major star Joanna Ampil, who is currently playing Fantine in “Les Miserables”. Gerard Salonga as the musical director, and together with the FILharmoniKA orchestra is set on stage with first-rate artistic team of Audie Gemora as executive producer, and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo as director.

The Broadway musical was adapted loosely on William Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet,” the young lovers coming from feuding families and set on the west side of Manhattan, New York City. West Side Story takes place in the 1950s when many Puerto Ricans moved to the Big Apple.

“West Side Story” will be staged at the Meralco Theater from September to October 2008.

Ka-Blog! is New Magazine Show

GMA airs New Magazine Show entitled Ka-Blog August 9 at 10AM headed by the newest and youngest reporters of the Kapuso network. Mico Aytona as the tech enthusiast, Lucky Mark Mercado is the sporty dude, Monica Verallo is the go-to girl, and the official style sister Andrea Torres.

This show will feature anything and everything about adolescent life so let's get hip to this new and sure to be the coolest teen tambayan on Saturdays.
